Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), also known as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)

Program that helps eligible people with limited incomes supplement their budgets so they can purchase food.
This federal food assistance program is designed to help eligible low-income households buy the food they need for nutritional meals.

The amount of benefits each household receives is based on several eligibility factors such as number of people in the household, total income, and allowable deductions. Most households do not receive the maximum benefit amount.

The person filing for Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) does not have to be the Head of Household. An authorized representative can apply on behalf of a Food and Nutrition Services. A Food and Nutrition Services unit (FNS unit) is a person or a group of people applying for or receiving Food and Nutrition Services benefits. In this situation the identity of both the authorized representative and the head of the FNS unit must be verified.

The benefits are given on an EBT card, which works like a debit card. You can use it to buy food at stores that accept EBT cards. Look for signs that say, “We accept SNAP benefits.”

Examples of acceptable verification include but are not limited to:

Driver’s license
Birth certificate
Work or school ID
Wage stubs
Voter registration card
Citizenship requirement
Verification of receipt of other social services programs such as but not limited to Medicaid and Work First Family Assistance

Income Guidelines (Oct.1, 2025 – Sept 30,2026)

You may be eligible for Food and Nutrition Services if your total income falls below the appropriate gross income limits for your household size. Eligibility workers determine which income limit applies to your household.

The maximum benefit amount for households receiving Food and Nutrition Services increased for the period of October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026.
